Tesla Cancels Model S Plaid+ Amid Praise for Standard Plaid

Elon Musk has announced the cancellation of Tesla's upcoming electric car, the Model S Plaid+, citing its standard counterpart as a superior option. The news was shared via Twitter on Sunday by the CEO himself, in his signature casual style.

The cancellation comes just days before the release of the standard Model S Plaid, which is set to hit roads on June 10 with an estimated range of 390 miles and a top speed of 200 miles per hour. This model boasts impressive acceleration capabilities, reaching 0-60mph in under two seconds – a feat that Musk claims 'has to be felt to be believed'.

The standard Plaid's performance has apparently made the need for its upgraded sibling redundant. In a tweet announcing the cancellation, Musk stated simply: 'No need', implying that the standard model is already more than capable of meeting drivers' needs.

Tesla had initially touted the Model S Plaid+ as an upgrade to the standard Plaid, with a range exceeding 520 miles and even quicker acceleration speeds. However, it's worth noting that preorders for this upgraded model were halted on Tesla's website in May – a move that hinted at potential issues or changes within the company.
