Hall passes have been a staple in schools for decades, but they often fall short of their intended purpose. These traditional paper passes only confirm that a student has permission to leave the classroom, without providing any additional information.

The limitations of conventional hall passes were highlighted by Tyler Shaddix, co-founder and chief innovation officer at GoGuardian. He notes that these passes typically stop at simply stating that a student is allowed to be out of class.
